HASAD Goal

The main goal of HASAD is to alleviate poverty and increase production through:

  • Improved water and soil management in rain-fed areas
  • Improved quality and quantity of agricultural products as well as improving marketing services
  • Capacity building for stakeholders and farmer groups

 

HASAD Project Areas

  • Areas with high incidence of poverty
  • Areas severely struck by the war of July 2006
  • Areas with low agricultural production
  • Areas prone to desertification
  • Hilly areas with a water harvesting crossed with a potential to develop high value crops.

 

HASAD Project Components

Component One: Water and Soil Conservation

  • Construction of twenty hill lakes out of which eighteen small ones ranging in size from 20,000 to 50,000 m3 and two medium size ones ranging between 50,000 to 100,000 m3 for complementary irrigation all equipped with irrigation networks (total capacity 890,000 m3)
  • Land reclamation and construction of retaining walls
  • Construction of 100 small cement and earth reservoirs
  • Capacity Building for farmer groups

Component Two: Technical support to farmers

  • Establishing three farmer service centers which will be operated by NGOs through Private Public Partnership
  • Providing counseling services for farmers and agricultural cooperatives on water management, best farming practices, and modern technologies …
  • Providing guidance on marketing services
  • Packing, storage and refrigerating
  • Marketing studies
  • On farm field observations
  • Technical support and training
